League rules
The draft
The original rulebook specifies a standard draft, not a snake draft, of 10–16 rounds and states that there will be no redrafts. If rosters remain unfilled after 13 rounds, those teams continue picking in draft order until their spots are filled.
- The next season’s draft order is determined by the previous season’s results. The six playoff teams are placed by their finish; the champion picks tenth.
- The four non-playoff teams enter a lottery at the Winter Owners’ Meeting. Lottery percentages are determined by the consolation tournament.
- Will Rule: an owner who cannot attend the draft forfeits all picks and must assemble a team through free agency after the draft has commenced.
The original draft wording says “no redrafts”; the keeper rule separately returns all players to the draft pool every three years.
League meetings
Every member is expected to attend all owners’ meetings. Dates are decided in advance. Meetings are held at the league clubhouse, Aaron’s Casa, unless otherwise noted.
- Winter Meeting: third Saturday of January each year.
- Draft Day: last Sunday before Week 1.
- Mid-Season Meeting: to be announced.
- Pro Bowl Week: Week 18; see Rule 10.
- First missed meeting: loss of a second-round pick. Second: vote on termination. Third: removal from the league.
The 2021 rulebook says Saturday; the archived website announcement says Sunday. Confirm the actual meeting date with league leadership.
Trades
All trades must be deemed fair and approved by the league President. When draft picks are involved, both owners must contact the league to confirm agreement.
- Money is never allowed in a trade. The Death Penalty is forfeiture of all remaining games that season, the first four picks in the next draft, and keepers.
- Rankings for a future pick with a performance clause are based on Week 14.
Rule changes & votes
Rules and changes may be proposed during the offseason for a vote at the Winter Owners’ Meeting. The original passage requirement is “7 votes or 65% of the total vote.” A proposal that fails may be voted on again the following year.
- Submit proposed rules to the Board one week before the Winter Owners’ Meeting.
- Include an explanation of why the change should take effect.
- The proposing owner presents their case at the meeting.
College redshirt draft
After each fantasy football draft, every owner selects one current college player and holds their rights for two years. Selection order is the reverse of the fantasy draft order.
- College players may be traded like NFL players.
- Each owner may hold the rights to only one college player at a time.
Keepers
After the first season, each owner selects two players from their current roster as keepers. Only one may be a running back.
- Announce keepers one week before the next season’s draft.
- Return all players to the draft pool every three years.
League dues & payouts
League entry is $75 per owner. The yearly payout is $400 to first place, $75 to second place, and $275 to the league fund.
- Pay the entry fee by the keeper announcement deadline. Missing the deadline puts the team on auto-draft.
- The team with the worst regular-season record has its name changed for the entire next season. The rest of the league votes on the new name.
Divisions & playoffs
The original format has five teams per division, with divisions redrawn every three years. The top three teams in each division reach the playoffs, and both division leaders receive a bye.
- Division swap: first and last place in each division select another owner from their division to move to the other division.
- Owners cannot be swapped in consecutive years.
Rivalry week
The original rulebook describes a weekly matchup between two rival members from separate divisions, decided at the first meeting.
The format after divisions are removed at the 2027 reboot has not been specified.
Week 18: Pro Bowl Week
In Week 18, each division forms a team using players its owners currently hold. The divisions compete, and the winner chooses two new events to add to the combine.
The format after divisions are removed at the 2027 reboot has not been specified.
Standings tiebreakers
The original rulebook applies tiebreakers in this order:
- Head-to-head record
- Division record
- Total points
- Home record
The website’s Sleeper standings display is not playoff seeding. A replacement for the division-record tiebreaker at the 2027 reboot has not been specified.
Goose egg punishment
An owner whose team finishes 0–13 must complete the Music Video Challenge: produce a music video chosen by the rest of the league and post it on all of the owner’s social media accounts, without context, for one year.
Last-place punishment
The team in last place after Week 14 receives the last-place punishment, as specified in the original rulebook. Food challenges are abolished. The league winner selects that team’s punishment from a list of ten options.
The ten punishment options have not yet been supplied. The 2024 one-chip result is retained only in the meeting record.
Adding a new owner
A new owner requires a unanimous vote from the other nine owners before joining the league.
Team name changes
Team names may change under either of these circumstances:
- The previous season’s worst-record team receives a name chosen by vote at the Winter Meeting.
- An owner pays a $5 name-change fee into the league account.
Chain of command
The following positions and names are recorded in the 2021 rulebook:
- President: James Laporte.
- Vice President: Eric Ventura.
- Chief Marketing Operator: Sasa Subotic. Responsibilities include creative design and promotion, including logos and shirts.
- Historian: Andrew Foraker. Maintains league records from the 2017 season onward.
- Godfather: vacant. Responsibilities include Draft Chairman, Draft Pick Coordinator, and “all around BADASS!”
Any position may be challenged for reelection at the offseason Winter Meeting. The incumbent must receive at least seven votes. Current officeholders have not been reconfirmed in the supplied meeting notes.
Commissioner rights
The original rulebook states that the President will defer to a league vote. In matters of punishment, judgment calls, or indecision by members, the President may act in the league’s best interest and the ruling is final.
I love this league! I love the competition and all the ball busting! I want this league to last for years and years. Being in the league is special. Help me make it great; help me take care of it. Because this league is OUR league!
Eric Ventura · signed as Vice President in the 2021 rulebook
